  As typical authors, we were dissatisfied with most of the books that we read while we researched our roots; some too long, some too scholarly, some too boring and some just not good.   This highly readable book explores the 8,000+ years of Irish history; from the Stone Age to the arrival of the Celts, and the development of the vibrant Irish civilization that thrived for 15 centuries under the rule of Irish Kings. Then, in 1166, a renegade Irish king, Dermot MacMurrough, issued the invitation that has never been undone, when he invited Henry II of England to come to Ireland. This single act laid the groundwork for the past 830+ years of conflict and struggle against English/British Imperial power in Ireland.

  In 1998, the peoples of Northern Ireland and of the Republic of Ireland voted to approve the Good Friday Agreement, an agreement designed to serve as a pathway to peace in Northern Ireland. Since then, there has been a conspicuous failure by the British Parliament and by the British PM, Tony Blair, to provide the effective leadership needed to implement the Good Friday Agreement. Sadly, after eight years, the implementation of the GFA remains an elusive goal but it is our hope that there will be a peaceful resolution of the Northern Ireland conflict soon.
